SUBSTACK PREVIEW | Collecting Kennedy: Abraham Zapruder, George de Mohrenschildt & The Conspiracy Market

How obscure names, unanswered questions, and historical mystique drive the JFK collecting world

At the JG HQ, for the last 6 months we have been deeply immersed in the world of John F. Kennedy, the Kennedy family, and those connected to the assassination and conspiracy world, as we curate the third installment of our Collecting Camelot: The Kennedy Legacy auction series.

This is nothing new for us. Over the years we have handled thousands upon thousands of John F. Kennedy related autographs, photographs, artifacts, and pieces of ephemera. We’ve been fortunate to work with material from some of the most iconic collections and estates from which Kennedy material has entered the market, including those of Chester Clifton, Kennedy’s Chief Military Aide; Cecil Stoughton, White House photographer; and Dave Powers, Kennedy’s close friend and White House aide. We’ve also handled notable private collections including that of Father Ronald Hoskins, known to many as “assassinologist,” and most recently the collection of noted Kennedy collector Bob Cochran.

Valuing autographs and artifacts relies on many factors, with rarity and desirability of course leading the way. What we’ve found, especially in the case of Abraham Zapruder and George de Mohrenschildt, is that mystery and mystique can go a very long way as well.
